GrantHero

Grant funding for advanced manufacturing companies

Materials, robotics, automation, additive and process innovation. The engineering is yours; the funding side is ours, which calls actually fit, how to evidence a manufacturing readiness level, and how to position for an assessor who wants productivity numbers, not a factory tour. We’ll tell you honestly where you stand before you commit a day to it.

Programmes that fit

The programmes that come round every year

Most of the calls above come from a few large, recurring programmes. Worth knowing by name: they reopen on a cycle, and each one is looking for something specific.

01 Innovate UK

Made Smarter Innovation

Innovate UK's flagship for digital manufacturing: automation, data, robotics and digital twins applied on real production lines. Assessors want a manufacturer in the consortium and a productivity number.

Typical award
£250k to £3m
Best for
Digital tech with a factory partner
02 Innovate UK

Advanced Propulsion Centre and ATI programmes

Sector programmes run with the Catapults and industry bodies. ATI for aerospace, APC for automotive. Larger pots, OEM pull expected, and long timelines.

Typical award
£500k to £10m+
Best for
Tier-1 and OEM-backed projects
03 Eurostars

Eurostars

Cross-border R&D for SMEs, two or more countries, run through Eureka. A strong route for a UK manufacturer with an EU materials, equipment or customer partner, and less crowded than the domestic calls.

Typical award
Up to €360k · about 60% funded
Best for
A UK SME with an EU partner

What assessors actually score

Engineers and industrialists mark these. Write for them.

Manufacturing bids lose marks in predictable places. Our AI Assessor scores every answer against the real criteria, and a bid-writer who has sat on the other side tells you where it's still thin.

  1. 1
A productivity number, with the baseline
Cycle time, yield, cost per unit, energy per part, today versus with the project. “Significant efficiency gains” scores nothing.
  2. 2
    MRL as well as TRL
Assessors want to know you can make it at volume, not just make one. Manufacturing readiness is where many strong technologies stall.
  3. 3
    A manufacturer in the room
For most programmes, a production partner with a named line and a named problem. Without one, the adoption story is theoretical.
  4. 4
    Supply chain and standards
Where the materials come from, what certification is needed (AS9100, IATF, CE/UKCA), and who signs it off.
